It seems to always happen at the worst time. It is urgent that you print a document quickly. You click the “Print” button but nothing happens. There are many things that can go wrong when using HP printers. However, most of these problems can be fixed quickly.
Here are eight reasons why your HP printer may not be printing.
If the printer isn’t getting enough power, it might stop working. Make sure the power cable is securely connected to your printer as well as to the power source. Verify that the surge protector has been turned on if the printer cable is connected to a surge protector. Try plugging the printer into another outlet if it is plugged into a wall socket.
No Computer Connection:-
Sometimes, a HP printer won’t print due to a bad connection. If you are using a wired setup, ensure that both ends of the printer cable are securely attached. If this fails, you can try another USB port on your computer (assuming that the printer cable is being used).
Confirm that your router is on if you have a wireless setup. Verify that the printer and computer are connected to the correct network. If you have a Bluetooth setup, make sure that the Bluetooth feature is on. Then try to find the printer again. Try moving the printer and computer closer together if it is not found.
Printing To The Wrong Printer
Even if your printer is one, there are likely many other options. All-in-one printers, which can be used to print, copy, scan, and fax, include a fax option. Programs such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft OneNote also have a printer option. If your document doesn’t print, ensure that it is sent to the right printer.
Print Job Stuck In The Print Queue
The operating system of your computer uses a print queue (or print jobs) to manage documents you send to it. A print job can get stuck in the queue if it has a problem. Every document that you attempt to print afterward will not print.
You can get your documents printed again by deleting the problematic print job. Double-click the Printer icon in System Tray (Windows), or click the Printer icon in Dock (Mac) to access the print queue. You can cancel or delete all documents in the printer queue, then print your document again. Sometimes printer jobs are not possible to remove this way. In such cases, your IT service provider may need to delete them.
Windows Only: “Use HP Printer Offline” Enabled
Windows OS provides an option to “Use HP Printer Offline“. This option can be enabled if your printer is offline. It will save the documents that you send to the printer in the print queue. These documents will print automatically when your printer comes back online. Windows should then disable the “Use Printer Offline” option. However, it sometimes does not happen. This option is sometimes enabled by Windows for no apparent reason. Printing jobs will stop in either case.
Open the printer queue to ensure that the “Use Printer Offline” option is disabled. If you don’t have a printer icon on the System Tray you can open the printer queue by entering “devices”, clicking “Devices & Printers” in search results, and then right-clicking your printer and choosing “See what’s Printing”. Click “Printer” at the top-left corner of the printer queue. Clear the checkbox next to the option “Use Printer Offline”.
Driver For Corrupted Printer
A driver must be installed on your computer in order for a printer’s to function. The printer driver relays information from the operating system to the printer. It is possible for it to become corrupted, especially if the driver isn’t up-to-date.
Other than not printing on occasion and other signs that a corrupt HP printer driver is at work, these are some of the indicators:
- Windows cannot recognize the printer.
- It takes a while for the printer to turn on.
- The printer prints irregular jobs.
- The printer can make errors.
